BB Energy makes another major move into renewables after the acquisition of Solarcentury Africa leading up to the creation of an emission trading desk.
Corporate and governments will need offset mechanisms to meet ambitious carbon neutrality targets. BB Energy’s new desk is set to trade on both compliance and voluntary markets as emission markets, rules and standards are expected to converge.
BB Energy has hired Sudhir Kaul as Head of Emission Trading. He has over 20 years of energy trading experience of which the last 13 years were at Vitol where he was instrumental in establishing the emissions trading desk.
Sudhir Kaul says, “Climate change is a global issue affecting the lives of people from all socioeconomic and geographical backgrounds. Emissions trading have proven to be so far an efficient and transparent solution to this issue”
“Carbon trading is not only a great tool to fight climate change globally; it is also a powerful driving force to promote projects with high impacts where they are most needed. We believe emission markets will compete with other large commodity markets in terms of size, liquidity and sophistication. BB Energy is therefore very well placed to apply its multi-decades experience to this new field and further grow its market share.”
– Mohamed Bassatne – CEO
“We are very excited to launch this new desk after months of hard work and preparation. It is set to become a cornerstone activity for the Renewable Division of BB Energy. Sudhir has been one of the pioneers in carbon trading and we are confident that his wealth of experience will help BB Energy build a strong position in this fast growing market.”
– Chahid Jarmouni – Head of Renewables and New Ventures
